I stripped the threads on the front hole by accidentally using the longer screw.

Any suggestions on how to fix? helicoil, locktight and pray, tap a larger thread?

Back to (a different) gunsmith? Who in metro ATL?

Depending on how bad its messed up you might be able to chase it with a tap and get it back in action otherwise going bigger is the better choice. I'd avoid locktight as I'd hate to get hit in the forehead with an aimpoint during a match or HD.

Those are 8-32 thread. I’ve got an 8-32 tap, I can run it through the hole and see if it can be saved.

If not, we could go up a size, drill a new hole or holes. That will require new screws, and opening the holes in the mount, as well. 10-32 would work.

8-32 should be able to be re-drilled and tapped to 8-40 (I think). That would keep you from having to drill a huge hole in the mount. I'd check the drill chart to verify though.
