Reloading accident

I have been using a hand priming toll for over 30 years. Even wore a few out and never popped a primer.
Something is still wrong with this story.
When using a hand priming tool, once the primer starts in the case, the flash from the primer would be directed up through the case not back into the primer tray. I don't see how one primer with virtually no back pressure could cause this much damage.

I wonder if he was watching tv while priming and managed to push a primer into an already primed case. Even still, after looking at my hand primer, the extension cuts off access to the tray once you squeeze the lever. Freak accidents happen.

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

I notice that almost every reloading accident has one of three of the most common reasons:

Distraction/carelessness/Not paying attention

Being greedy/mizerly trying to save a primer from XYZ situation instead of just throwing away the whole bullet (most common)

Blatant disregard of separating components on the bench itself.

sounds like your friend did a combo of 2 and 3 tbh
