That's awesome! Tamiya kits were THE gold standard (and likely still are ) in the 70s and 80s when I was a kid.

Yep, This kit cost around $1200. You can get the Chinese version for like $150.

All of the 1/16 kits are overpriced. I'm looking at the 1/35 RC tanks from Tamiya. All of their kits are basically the model kit with RC running gear. If you actually drive them you'll probably break it.

I built a 1/35 Steyr RSO diorama a few months ago.
