Outboard motor question

Does it hurt an outboard motor to crank and run it for a few seconds (less than 30 seconds) w/o water flowing in? Just wondering?

I do it all the time, The water pump dose not have time to heat up.

That's about what I figured. Just wanna make sure. Like to fire it off every now and then just to keep the gas circulated.....but don't wanna drag it out to hook up the hose all the time. How long is safe?

Best to get a set of ears you can hook to the bottom, and run a hose to it.

I have the muffs....just don't like to hook up to it and drag it out of the garage just to crank it up all the time. I do hook it up if I'm gonna run it any length of time.

Don't do it--over time it will get ya---water pump is rubber--will dry out a crack and brake apart and will not pump water to engine----another thing---run your engine dry of fuel--your using the new cheap gas with alcohol in it--could talk about this for hours--been running boats in the keys for 15 years---just alittle advise---------------------captdan------------------

I won`t run it more than 5 seconds.Any longer,I use the muffs.I put Sta-bil in my fuel ALL the time.Between that and oil,gas is close to $5 a gallon,I guess.Ethanol is taking a toll on OBs.
