i much prefer the alternative of not having a range over a busy highway. You wouldn’t have to worry about freak accidents, only shooting from prone, and having to cross a highway for range maintenance… but that’s just me.

Also worth remembering the Swiss still have conscription for all males. A lot of people are well trained in the use of firearms, and it's a popular sport there. After that they used to take their rifles home as part of the 'reserves', not sure if that's still the case.

Exactly.
No names, but the gun range that always has a Groupon deal has 100s of holes in the ceiling, the one range that is exclusive and costs 1k base for the membership has 0.
