Ok, I can see how shooting at distance can be addictive…

I took my Tikka T1x .22lr out to 200 yards yesterday and man, that’s some fun! It was the first time shooting it I could actually see/feel the effects of distance and wind…and pulling the trigger and that split second before you see impact is addictive.

I quickly realized that even with a decently high powered scope, if you don’t use reactive targets or steel it’s tough to see where you land on a regular 100 yards target at 200. I had to switch to my spotting scope every few shots to check what was happening down range

Makes me want to get really accurate at long distance with the .22 and then step up to a higher powered rifle and move on down the range…

I used to go up to South Dakota once a year for some Prairie Dog hunting and long range shooting. Had a Savage .338 Lapua Magnum and we set up steel targets at 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 yards. No problems until I tried for the 1,000. Just could not read the wind like the other guys could. I came close, but never rang it. We had one local fellow (our host) take his 45-70 and with iron sights offhand and Kentucky windage rang the 1,000 yard plate twice in a row. I was (and am) in awe! Long range is great.

That may be, but I can't even see that 12" gong at 1,000 without a scope and he does it with iron sights. I even saw him pop a pdog at 600 yards (and that was videotaped!)

What size was the steel target ya'll were shooting at 1,000 yards? **Update - never mind, I see you said 12" gong in a later post**
