My wife's worthless brother had a baby momma one time living in a rented singlewide behind the churches chicken off Lexington Hwy in Athens. She was on stamps. Had herself, her older boy from a previous non-marriage, and the little one from my wife's brothers input. My wife (gf at the time) and I lived nearby and always went over to check on them and visit and whatnot. No real job between the two of them. Their cabinets and pantry were STACKED to the point they were giving US food.
I read a conspiracy theory once that said food stamps are actually just a multi-billion dollar subsidy to agribusiness, which is why it's administered by the Dept of Ag. I don't doubt that was probably true at one time, but nowadays most of what America grows gets shipped off, and most of what America eats gets shipped in. Which means we're subsidizing Brazil and Candadian farmers, not necessarily our own.
