I have read several articles recently that there is a move to have them removed from cars and maybe trucks as early as 2018. They wand to replace them with small rear facing cameras...

NOOOOOOO!

I am so sick of the direction auto manufacturers are going, they are trying to take all the driver out of driving..

Cars park for you they brake for you blah blah whats next? you just get in the car and read a book while the car does every thing?

Not my car... Guess I won't be buying any new cars..

I'm with you there. Rear facing cameras now have to be standard, but I haven't heard about eliminating side mirrors. I'd like as little electronic interference as possible. No power windows, seats, electronic steering either.

Also I drive a 25 year old Volvo...it's the perfect automobile.

I'm curious if they would design the system to incorporate the Side images in the Rear View Mirror for a 'Panoramic' side/rear view?

and then project it on the windshield so you will not have to turn you head to change lanes. That'd be cool. This one has no rear view mirrors at all...
