Hey Jimmy, welcome to GA.

I don't usually get a bill of sale, signed by both parties, in a private gun transaction.
I'm willing to take some risks, and roll the dice. For the sake of convenience.

Making a BOS / paper receipt is probably a "safer" way to do it, legally...
... if some gun you sold somebody ever ended up being used in a major crime and cops come knocking at YOUR door.
Or if you bought a gun that, unknown to you, had been stolen or used in a major crime. But a bill of sale isn't always necessary or even very useful, depending on the circumstances. I'll tell you this-- cops and prosecutors and judges and jurors don't have the same attitudes about bills of sale for guns as the peanut gallery here at the Outdoors Trader. So keep that in mind. If some criminal justices professionals, or the jurors on your case, are asked to evaluate whether your choice to buy/ sell guns on a website with some anonymous stranger was reasonable, reckless, criminal, or tortious (a bad act for which you can be sued in civil court), you won't be allowed to say "But the guys at O.D.T. said it was OK, and they all do it this way!!"
