Found an old bayonet going though my pa’s stuff. Was wondering if this was in any shape to restore and a ballpark price to get it done. Need some recommendations as well. I’d love to use someone from the trader. Thanks, y’all!

Bench grinder with wire brushes instead of stones, one brush stiff the other softer. Give it an all over brushing then attach some buffing wheels and work over using progressively finer compounds. Should clean up pretty well. Then work on some scales.

I appreciate it, bud. Yeah, I kinda agree. They’re for sale online for $75-$100… just wonder if they’re authentic or made last year..
I see good condition examples around Macon for $75 - $100. Maybe add $15 - $25 if the complete leather frog for the scabbard is present.

Hard to tell from the pics but the pitting looks pretty deep. It will clean up some but likely not a good candidate for restoration. You can get a scabbard from Atlanta Cutlery for around $30 bucks or so but the handles are tough to find….probably have to make those.

Birchwood casy make a blueing and rust remover. I was very impressed with the way it worked. 00 steel wool and the remover, elbow grease and patients. Looks like scale rust and not so many pits. And 1/2 inch wood a coping saw and sand paper ( elbow grease and patience again) and it would look great on a mantle
