Moving a mailbox Away from the street...

Has anyone had the pleasure of working with the USPS to have a mailbox moved from the street and placed closer to the house for medical reasons? My wife’s dad is 89 and has early signs of dementia. He is obsessed for some reason with checking the mail. Like every hour or so. The street is very busy and we need to have the box moved down the driveway closer to the house and further from the street.

Good luck, think they have guidelines to follow as to how far off the road it has to be but I surely don’t know everything lol

Don't know the procedure, but they did it for my neighbor. She has since passed.

Tell the carrier what you want to do and why. Sometimes they can be placed in the yard next to the driveway. I have seen some like that.

Install a fake mailbox for him to check by the house. Deliver Penthouses and Playboys to keep him going back for more.

Talk to the carrier. In my experience They will work with you but they don’t want to have to back up.

Ask your carrier or local PO about a “hardship delivery”. Carrier will need to be able to turn around from it. They aren’t allowed to back out into the street.

It’s possible to something he likes to do,just get him a open from back.it may be him form of exercise.
