My young man and I just got into metal detecting. Today’s finds

The gun is an air soft. You can imagine our eyes when we first uncovered it though.

I've been metal detecting for several years. I love it. Good exercise and never know what you'll find. I've found several CW bullets, round balls, coat buttons, and a crap load of old horse and mule shoes, always have fun with it.

Yea, I’m like the master of broken mule/horse shoes, lol.

Well haven't done any treasure hunting with one. But I have lost nuts, bolts and small parts to atv's, lawn mowers, etc. in the yard. I went inside and grabbed my son's green toy metal detector and found the missing items. So they do come in handy.

This has always been a curious hobby to me.
What would be a decent detector to look at as a start to get into it?

Get something with a digital display in numbers.
I’ve owned several types over the years and they are the easiest to use.
It’s much easier to tell what kind of metal you’re digging and pick up a pin pointer it save a lot of bending over.
