This current bill before the Georgia General Assembly would make obtaining a GWL ( a weapons carry license) unnecessary if you are eligible for one.
It's a very long bill which basically modifies almost every gun control law in Georgia to say that people who are eligible for a carry permit but never actually got issued one (or let theirs expire) shall be treated as if they had one,
and entitled to all the privileges of a license holder.

Because of COVID, many probate courts across Georgia are forcing citizens to wait months to have an appointment to even submit an application for a carry license, and similarly there are long wait times for getting fingerprinted.

This Bill would make getting a GWL unnecessary so
the state will not be denying you your right to carry FOR MONTHS
while you go through the process of applying for one, getting fingerprinted, and having said license sent to you once your approved.

16-11-126, the law that makes it a crime to carry a weapon (handgun) outside of your home, your own land, your motor vehicle, or your place of business,

is modified as follows:

" (h)(1) No person shall carry a weapon without a valid weapons carry license unless he
or she meets one of the exceptions to having such license as provided in subsections (a)
through (g) of this Code section or is eligible for a weapons carry license.

(2) A person commits the offense of carrying a weapon without a license or eligibility
to carry a weapon when he or she violates the provisions of paragraph (1) of this
subsection...
