The book to get on Springfields 1903's is entitled "The Springfield 1903 Rifles", written by Lt. Col. William S. Brophy, USAR, Ret. It is just over 600 pages long and is Burgandy in color and hardbacked. The book is the definitive data reference on Springfield 1903's, and on page 605, specifically states Springfield receivers under 800,000 and Rock Island receivers under 285,506 should not be issued to the service. The reason why is answered in the book. Look it up. My book is copyrighted in 1985 and every 1903 green-bean KIA should have one.
