Had heard of this movie several times, but never paid attention to it. Caught it via Hulu a few nights ago, and now appreciate its greatness.
I'm not a big Josh Hartnett fan; I always think of the 2001 Pearl Harbor when I think of him, which is maybe not fair, because that script was just outright dog****. He was decent in Black Hawk Down, but not a standout.
He was nothing short of incredible in his leading role in Lucky Number Slevin. More than holding his own with a star studded supporting cast (Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley, Danny Aielo, Mykelti Williamson, Stanley Tucci, Corey Stoll, and Lucy Liu). The onscreen chemstry between Hartnett and Lucy Liu was terrific. There is a lot of humorous, offbeat subtlety in Hartnett's performance.
Highly recommend this this slightly-dark-yet-funny crime thriller.
