• ODT Gun Show & Swap Meet - May 4, 2024! - Click here for info

Let’s have fun. This is a “are you ****ting me” prices.

yeah I don't really pay them much attention, I hate the price increases that we are seeing in the gun community right now but as a believer in small businesses and a free capitalist market I understand it completely and would more than likely do the same exact thing if I was a small business owner in the gun bidness

The problem for many, is that the price increases here on ODT, are outpacing the price increases in the retail market by a factor of 10 to 20.

Dealer prices have crept up a little, with many being within 5-10% of what they were before. On ODT, the price increase is 50-200% depending on the listing... That's why I call them scalpers... A lot of people are buying guns at retail prices and then flipping them here at high profits. Or buying them here and flipping them on ArmsList... The repeat offenders, are basically using Covid as a means to act as an unlicensed dealer, which sooner or later, will blow up in all of our faces that use this site.

Nothing like starting the day off with mindless drivel by someone who has no idea what he is talking about. It was said earlier, but it is true. The longest whine in the history of ODT. Whine on. I can't help but laugh at the stupidity of the posts.

I don’t get the newspaper anymore,I consider the prices as reading the cartoons as a kid.it won’t be long gonna have to take guns out safe and put ammo.

OMG.... I can't believe I'm going to actually try and make a meaningful post in this thread.

To those of you that think you should be allowed to pontificate openly in another person's listing about the merit of their price, would you PLEASE in your head walk through exactly how you envision that going for us?

Scenario 1 - We'll call this scenario "Reality" as it's been proven time and time again.

Seller- NIB Glock 19 $700, no box or docs, one mag
Price Savior - "Excuse me good sir, but those can be had new with all the factory goodies for materially less. You are above MSRP for goodness sake! :drama:"
Seller - "Great, then go buy it for less and stay out of my thread. If you have any further comments, PM me."
Price Savior - "I want this to be public as I just don't want any newbie getting taken when your price is clearly above 'market' and didn't you just buy that from another member for $475? You may get yourself in trouble with the alphabets"
Seller - "So you're publicly crying about my price in order to protect me? Gee thanks. Now get out of my thread and move along if you're not interested in buying."
Price Savior - "Whatever dude, 'we' don't need people like 'you' on this site."
Seller - "Back at you Skippy"
Price Savior - "Screw you."
Seller - "I thought that's what you said I was doing to you?"
:blah: :blah: :blabla: :blabla: :blah: :blah:

Scenario 2 - We'll call this "Pipe Dream" because that's what it is.
Seller- NIB Glock 19 $700, no box or docs, one mag
Price Savior - Excuse me good sir, but those can be had new for materially less. You are above MSRP for goodness sake."
Seller - My goodness, you are correct. I am so sorry. I had no idea what I had here but after extensive online research I can clearly see that as recently as 6 months ago this very gun could be had for $400. I have adjusted my price to $350 to atone for my sins and do hope this fine community will forgive my unintentional indiscretion."

Yes Okuma owns the site, but I feel very confident in saying if you think we are ever going to allow dumping in someone's classified listing because of what you "feel" is a fair price, you are wasting your wishes.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE PRICE MOVE ON. It really is getting ridiculous that this is getting discussed.

All the time spent complaining about "the prices are too high" you probably miss solid deals that get snatched up daily.

Would it be possible to add a function in listing an item whereby the seller could elect to allow any & all nitwits to comment freely on what they think a fair price is, or how the item could be had for less elsewhere (whether true or not) and further pontificate on profiting from sales, etc., so that the membership who do not spend countless hours reading whining, crybaby threads could be alerted to the more socialist minded and less freedom loving members of this site? The mods would be free to ignore the drivel posted by these mindless, socialist activists in the sellers' ads if the option was ticked during listing.
