For you AK experts here JDS556762 JDS556762 CQB27 CQB27 @BamaFan bambam bambam do you know where I can find a good guide to AK's? Like, if I'm interested in getting my first one, is there a site or PDF guide or something that tells about different features, manufacturers, specs, etc. so I can make an informed buy? I don't want to just visit a LGS and get the first one I see.

Cobbled together in the Khyber Pass using hack saws and ball peen hammers......Probably runs a damn site better than the current PSA pistol caliber AK, LOL!
Khyber builds are the best!

Lots of opinion out there, lol. Spend a little over on the AKfiles http://www.akfiles.com/forums/, watch the videos at AK47/74 Operators Union http://www.akoperatorsunionlocal4774.com/

If I were looking to break into the AK game I would make a decision on what would satisfy me on the AK scale then keep my eyes and wallet peeled for a deal on that model. For me that would mean a communist european type variant with a communist hammer forged barrel, probably a Arsenal or one of the current Polish AKs coming out of the WPB Rogow factory with Random barrels. But that's just me. Many will say get a WASR! And that's not bad advice, but many a first time WASR buyer eventually upgrades to Bulgarian/Polish type model. If I wasn't worried about having multiple AKs then I wouldn't hesitate to wet my feet with a WASR. But If I was interested in only one I would save a few extra $100 bills and go Bulgarian/Polish.
