I have a question regarding K98 and M48 front sights and hoods. Attached are two pictures. The one with a taller front sight hood and a shorter front sight base is from a WWII K98. The one with the shorter front sight hood and taller front sight base is from a Yugoslavian M48. I much prefer the sight picture on the K98 over the M48. My question is, is this standard and just a difference between the two rifles, or is this simply a fluke and I happen to have some random front sight hood that is short for some reason on my M48. It is noticeable when looking at it from the front with the eye, and is very noticeable when aiming down the sights. On the K98, the tip of the triangular barleycorn front sight ends a little over half way up the front sight hood. On the M48, it goes about 3/4 - 4/5 the way up. If this can be confirmed with someone else's K98 and M48, then this is another difference between the two rifles that is often not mentioned or overlooked.
