Just picked up a Skyline R33 GTR Vspec

Excuse the crappy photos. Ordered a billet RB30 block from Spool today and I'm currently deciding on what type of cylinder head options are available to me. I'm hoping that my old PPG Sequential dog box from my MKIV Supra will somehow be usable on this new R33. Man this whole parts inventory for this engine build is going to have its challenges already. I'm up to it. 0FAF59B3-4EF5-4873-8C21-5FBE63818852.jpegD7711BFF-0D6A-4B75-9413-4795D9184CFE.jpeg8017D63E-7A87-47FC-A649-F9B8F552FCB8.jpegD9F04602-664D-45B4-A835-0A12924F2807.jpeg94BACF92-AEEC-4EE5-AF23-DD2C18AA30F2.jpeg892BB5FB-66D2-498E-BCCF-67D632FFCB00.jpeg80B61AB8-36AA-452D-8A03-3729C8F23D26.jpeg534C1212-D5AC-4E95-ABEF-60161A4A2D98.jpeg74091D8E-967C-4CFE-9866-4DB5064D88DB.jpeg0FAF59B3-4EF5-4873-8C21-5FBE63818852.jpegD7711BFF-0D6A-4B75-9413-4795D9184CFE.jpeg8017D63E-7A87-47FC-A649-F9B8F552FCB8.jpegD9F04602-664D-45B4-A835-0A12924F2807.jpeg94BACF92-AEEC-4EE5-AF23-DD2C18AA30F2.jpeg892BB5FB-66D2-498E-BCCF-67D632FFCB00.jpeg80B61AB8-36AA-452D-8A03-3729C8F23D26.jpeg534C1212-D5AC-4E95-ABEF-60161A4A2D98.jpeg74091D8E-967C-4CFE-9866-4DB5064D88DB.jpeg

Any of my RB cats out there, have any good recommendations for a company to go with for a built RB head to match the RB30 new billet block and rotating assembly from Spool? Next onto the the forced induction setup. Definitely going single turbo. Thinking a real deal HKS T51R. Maybe a custom setup. Goal is to run a reliable 850 awhp on pump gas. Thinking of who around the Atlanta area that installs and tunes certain standalone ECU setups. I'm thinking Motec, Halltech, AEM Infinity??? Was thinking about hitting up Z1 in Carrollton for recommendations and finding out a good route.

Very nice Sir. Classic & desirable color. I used to have an RB26 back in the early 2000s. Somewhere around 2002-03 I was the first on this side of the pond to swap the RB26, and I put it in a S13 240. I did most of the work at my parents garage, but the motor mounts were stock rb20. I converted the rb26 to RWD using a RB25 DE not DET transmission. The other shop I used was Turbo Dave (a legend in my book) for welding. He modified the rb25 oil pan to work with the rb26 sump and the oil pan baffles are different. (rb26 baffles are attached to the block where rb25 baffles are intergraded into the oil pan like most cars.) I cut out a firewall from a Silvia front clip and Turbo Dave welded it in (car caught on fire, but since it was stripped out, so it did not burn to the ground lol). I converted the car to rhd because the steering column interfered with the back most turbo. I wanted to keep both twins, rather than go top mount single, so it was a lot more easier for me to convert it to rhd. Anyways, it went to 550whp in 2004ish, with HKS 2530's and Power FC. This was in a completely stripped out S13 (no AC/Heat, No dash, carpet, stereo/speaker etc. The car weighed in at 2380lbs, so with 550whp, it was dangerously fast. When I made the FS ad on Zilvia, I warned that: "if you want to die, drive it in the rain.". If you got time to burn, just search my name on Zilvia, you'll see a lot of info on the swap. I even made a post to help people out called truths and lies, since no-one at the time attempted the swap, so it was all assumptions. I and my partner were mechanics for Finish Line in Marietta, we were doing the first SR/CA swaps in GA back in 2001. I started a company in 2002 called SnailWorks Garage in 2002. Their, me and my partner did the first RB swaps in the US. We were swimming in cash, and made about 20K a month between us doing 4 swaps that took maybe 150hrs of work picking up the shell/motor set etc, swap, cleaning, pictures, ebay and transaction. Motorsets were less than $1000 at the time because nobody knew what to do with them. We got them from Jhot and Jarco at the time (not sure if they're still in buiness). We milked the cow when there was milk to be had. When I got into school, I got out of wrenching (outside my own cars). I showed all the local shops at the time how to do the RB swaps. Went to TopHat, E&E motorsports, Turbo Dave, and others. Did a rb swap at each shop, free of charge, and got out of the game as a nice gesture. At the time, I was going through school as a mechanical engineer, and then started a LLC called Snailworks Engineering. In that adventure I designed car parts for Nissans in SolidWorks such as heat shields, big caliper/brake mounts, gauge pods, trans adapters etc. It was just as profitable. Before I finished school, there was one last rb26 I helped my partner build before I got out of the game for years. That was a customer (Mexican Cartel) that paid 80K for us to convert a S14 240 into an AWD 800whp car. Turbo was top mount HKS T51r, I cant remember if it was Haltech or AEM. On the dyno it burned through the original aftermarket clutch but was perfectly fine when we swapped it over to a OS Giken (twin/triple?) plate. That was around 2006ish, after that I bought a 240z that I was prepping for another RB26 swap but sold the chassis for a bike. Then got out out of Nissan and went MR2 turbo, but that was incredibly slow in comparison to all, so I sold it an bought a Jeep to get out of fast Jap cars all-together. Got out of the game with Nissan for about four years, then bought a B13 Sentra SER and swapped in a SR20VE in 2007ish. By 2008, I was at ALT Dragway competing All Motor Pro with 220whp at 2050LBS. It was a 12s car but after my 3rd transmission in 5K miles, I was done with FWD. Next was an Honda 2008 S2KCR. Never owned a Honda but it did 455whp, stock internals supercharged. not shabby at all, Supercharger kit by SOS, Hondata ECU and tuned by TopSpeed. Then I went to BMW with E92 M3. Kept it all motor at around 400whp. Sold it in 2014 for two M16 machinguns. Did not do anything with cars until 2017, when I had 3 cars of interest. 2017 GTR, 2018 Porsche GT3 manual, 2017 Viper ACR Extreme or T/A. Went to the Porsche dealer, but they blew me off. I showed up in a beater with hobo clothes on, so they judged a book by it's cover and paid me no mind. I left and went across the street an picked up the 2017 GTR minutes later. Still have the 2017 GTR. My brother later in 2017 picked up a R32 GTR. It has been 15+ years since I've messed with RB26's, but if I was in your shoes, I would not do the RB30. I'd do a 600-650 whp with Borg Warner EFR 6258's with Haltech or Motec and maybe AEM. 2.8 Stroker revving to 9K, with a PPG. My brother like you wants 800whp with PPG, but I convinced him to tone it down a notch with 600-650whp, and make for a much more lively enjoyable car that will still run low tens and be enjoyable and responsive in the mountains.

We will most definitely need to link up!

..Turbo Dave, TopHat, Jhot, and Jarco...

All of those are familiar names I dealt with too, either buying front clips and engines, or selling to them. I was the US Distributor for Hybrid Development International (HDI) intercoolers (www.hybrid-power.com) during that time frame, specializing in Nissan SR and RB intercooler kits, with an occasional WRX kit. We sold hundreds of intercooler and piping kits on zilvia.net! Seems like decades ago!
