Yes there is a button by the trigger that opens it.

It’s a 700 Classic. Don’t remember what year they did the 300 Weatherby but they did a different caliber each year in the Classic.

Googled it. Classics were made from 1981-2005 with a different single caliber each year. 300 Weatherby was done in 1989. They are quite collectible in mint condition.
