A mainstream source of news with an agenda that lies? Who knew.
Here's a guy who actually survived a SHTF scenario is Bosnia. https://www.silverdoctors.com/gold/...hellsurviving-a-full-shtf-collapse-in-bosnia/
He was asked "Were gold and silver useful?" To which his answer was "
Yes. I personally traded all the gold coins in the house for ammunition. Sometimes, we got our hands on money: dollars and Deutschmarks. We bought some things for them, but this was rare and prices were astronomical. For example, a can of beans cost $30 to $40. The local money quickly became worthless. Everything we needed we traded for through barter."
This means that whoever had the ammo was willing to trade it for gold, and that in SHTF when ammo was one of the most crucial, and therefore expensive things one could obtain gold was one of the things valuable enough to trade for it.
I just don't see it working here... If society actually collapsed, I wouldn't give a crap about gold... I know the people selling gold want us to believe that... And it might be valuable to some people, because they hedge their bets that society will return, and it will put them in a good position having all that gold...
Every crisis in human history suggests you're wrong.
Maybe. You think most of today's people value gold? Think of your average 30 year old...
I'm 26 and I recognize its value. Also, maybe you wont accept precious metals for ammo in SHTF, but there will be plenty of people with ammo who wont accept anything but precious metals for the stuff.
I posted several articles on this from prepper sites... The world today isn't quite the same as it was in time past.
People can say what they think as if it's fact all they want; history, as in reality that happened in the past as opposed to people pontificating, does not bear that out. There has never been a crisis in human history where gold somehow became worthless. People are always greedy, and society always comes back.
Agreed. I'd rather have the things people will want to give me gold for later. Why would I buy gold at today's prices when I can buy wheat for a fraction of the cost and sell it by the loaf of bread for gold pieces later? Just doesn't make sense to me. How much gold would you give me if you were starving? I'd pay a lot.
