Interested in GMRS and Need Advise

Firstly:

Now, I'm interested in using 5W GMRS handhelds for communications from the grocery store or wherever to my home. I will not be investing $100s on setting up a base station or personal repeater. My goal is to use two 5W GMRS handhelds and a GMRS repeater service for off-grid comms. I've been looking at https://nggmrs.org as they seem pretty close to my location (Decatur area). Would this work, or are 5W handhelds not going to cut it? Thanks.

Google is exempt from that; remember they are the OS.

Not sure how being "exempt" turns on your location services. Are you just going to quit using your phone?

This. Turning location off does not turn it off for Google; it only turns it off for third party apps.

Follow the instructions to get your license. Did it the other day for different reasons took 10 mins. Grab you some good radios and you are set. Check out the tera tr505 i think it is. Seen some good reviews abt them.

Thanks for that, but would hitting a repeater from 30317 zip be usable with 5W HTs?
