I did it to the 1st one I bought in the '90s. Hell, it took me a week to get it put back together. I didn't have a manual and there was no internet to look it up on Youtube!

That was my problem too.

I had a blued Colt Series 80 back in the early/mid 90s. I made the dreaded "Idiot Mark" the second time I took it apart. But I was way young and equally as dumb. I didn't grasp how the undeer side of that slide release was supposed to snap in that tiny hole and around that damn detent in the plunger tube. Hell I didn't even own a bushing wrench back then.

BTW... if you type Idiot Mark into Google images you'll see probably 4 or 5 pages of scratched 1911s.
