How To Run a Pump Shotgun

Just because you CAN shoot a shotgun that way,
doesn't mean you SHOULD.
Unless the whole point is to show off.
Like the late Tom Knapp, shotgunner extraordinaire.

He can pulverize flying clay targets while holding his shotgun
in a rather unconventional way.

Not to muddy the waters, but that grip is how I was taught to shoot a lever action rifle, regardless of caliber and recoil. Much quicker to work the lever if you aren’t constantly wrapping and unwrapping your thumb around the wrist of the stock in between each shot. Watch videos of any of the top Cowboy Action Shooters and you’ll see them do it.

When Jerry Miculek wants to show off,
he can hold his gun in unusual ways and still hit the target.

Not 400m, but I ring steel at 200yds with my Beretta 92, held upside down, pulling the trigger in single-action with my pinkie. Cake n’ pie, once you get the hold down.

Please offer a definition or meaning of the word "run" as it is used here.

“Running” a gun is operating it. Not just firing it, but doing all the other things you should be able to do with it, as in various reloads, clearing malfunctions, transitions (where applicable), etc.
