I recently picked up a Colt New Frontier 22lr with a case hardened receiver. I’m not an expert, but I believe it’s tarnished (?) from age and long term storage.

Is it possible to clean & polish this up to look new again? What materials, methods, etc. would it take? My mind goes back to the days when we polished up grandma’s silver each year before Christmas Dinner…

TYIA!

Polishing the case-hardened frame will dim or remove the colors. The surface hardness (main reason for color case-hardening) will still be there, but not the colors that make it attractive.

You can have the frame case-hardened again, but it would require the barrel to be removed.

Turnbull’s and Tyler’s both do excellent case-hardening, and they can both pull your barrel and reinstall.
