I don’t use a flame because the temp is way above the temp needed for the job. Could kill springs and mess up finish.

I've no idea. I've taken apart dozens of AR's over the past 34 years and this is the first time I've encountered this.

The micro torch concentrates the heat in the needed area which is harder to do with a heat gun in my past experience. YMMV
