I built a wooden shooting bench today and thought I’d share a few pics with y’all.
Started with the platform from an old wooden ladder stand I no longer use. It’s been collecting dust and cobwebs under the shed on the side of my shop for several years. I figured it would make a pretty good top for my bench.

This is what I started with. 4’x4’ deck, center joists extend about another 40”.

I removed the seat.

I removed 3 of the 5/4 deck boards shortening the sides to 33” then cut the 2x6 side frame down flush and shortened the center joists to 55” overall.

Here is the semi finished bench. I still need to do some bracing on the legs and maybe a coat of paint to purty it up a bit but it’s heavy and very stable.

Legs are 4”x4”x 32” long. It’s not very pretty but I think it will work well on my backyard range. Best of all, I didn’t have to buy anything extra to build it, I had all the materials in my scrap lumber stash. . Some times it pays off to be a bit of a hoarder!

looks good.
After moving mine a few times I decided wheels would be a nice touch. Makes moving it a one person job. Cheap wheels from harbour freight and you're good to go.

After trying to move this around in my shop I realized I need to do something similar. That kinda looks like lawnmower wheels. I may go to my local Tractor Supply and see what they have tomorrow.

Made the trip to Tractor Supply this morning and picked up a couple of wheels. Got some bracing in place and the wheels mounted. Much easier to move this beast around now!
Thank you HERMET HERMET ! Great idea on the wheels and how to mount them.

It’s not visible in these pics but I added some 4”x4” blocks under the table top behind the legs to help brace them.
