I did it before my buddy who's opinion I respect a bunch told me that used to be a big no no. Now I ran 9mm through a 45 can and got away with it. What's the consensus?

If you run a wide-mouth hollow point at a velocity over 6000 ft./s it might expand in the air and strike your baffles.
So just keep an eye on your pressures and velocity, and you'll be alright.

Pardon my ignorance, but what wide mouth hollow point, in any caliber, do you know of, that has those velocities?
I mean no disrespect at all, I just can’t comprehend that comment
I think he was saying that though it is theoretically possible to have a problem, from a practical standpoint it ain’t gonna happen.

.30-06 is around 3k-3600 fps. How would a 9mm or .45 be close to 6k fps? Am I missing something?
To the OP’s question… I only run ball ammo through cans.

M2Ball is under 2800 fps. Not quite as fast as full 30-06, but close.
