Knocked down an average size doe then realize it wasn't? The legend died today but I'll own it. I sat in the stand for 4.5 hours and this "doe" came in broadside. Ears up, long snout, no gear I could see. I lined up a good shot and took it. DRT. The problem is that I glanced at the head then focused on the shot when I should have focused on the head then focused on the shot. I screwed it up today. First time I killed a spike in 29 years of hunting. Won't happen again. He'll eat good but I feel like an asshole. Give it to me.....I deserve it.

I felt the same way a couple of years ago when I shot a yearling doe. I thought she was average size since she was the same size as the other two with her. They were about 140 yds away. Apparently all three were yearlings and I just did a poor job of judging size. Don't beat yourself up. Once in 29 years is still a good record.
