hard to catch fish

If it used to be good and now it’s not i I would think that the fish aren’t there like they once were. Maybe plenty slipping in and catching them
 
A white, or chartreuse beetle-spin seems to be a great fish catcher in small ponds for some reason, based on my experience.

If you throw it 100 times with no bites, don't bother going back!
 
An original floating Rapala F05 in silver only takes 20 casts. ;)

Yep, when I fished farm ponds in my younger days, a small floating Rapala took a lot of bass. I also found staying behind cover (if any), and walking as softly as possible on the bank, upped my chances significantly.

When you trudge around the bank, bass 'gonna know you're there.
