GOA: Compromise Is Hurting Gun Rights in Florida

Same thing happened in Louisiana... a good Constitutional Carry bill got sidelined by a group that went after legislators supporting 2A because it wasn't the 'perfect' bill they wanted.

It was passed overwhelmingly in the legislature, then vetoed by the governor. It should have been a slam-dunk for an override but the ill-will created by this 'no compromise' group (not the GOA BTW) and the governor's threats to lawmakers kept that from happening.

However not getting everything you want in a pro-gun bill all at once isn't 'compromise', it's reality. The anti-gunners know that you have to work a bit at a time, and we need to use that same tactic against them.

It took 200+ years for them to chip this far at the Second... It's not all going to be gained back in an instant.

Thats what was said about the gun owners protection act as the NRA threw machine guns under the bus by accepting the Hughes Amendment.

Yup... that was the quid-pro-quo for sure, even though no one ever admitted it.

I was thinking more along the lines of pro-gun bills that 'don't go far enough' though, like in the OP's original article.

Really. When your party has a supermajority in both houses and the governor?
The problem is RINO’s that need to be exposed with a floor vote.

Wouldn't make a difference, the RINOs got in because they knew that they had to straddle the middle ground on most issues. If they suddenly went hard-line they would probably lose their seat to someone more 'moderate'.

Sure, they will take heat from a percentage of their constituency, but the reality is that roughly 60% of the people who vote don't care about gun laws one way or the other.

Why should they worry about legislation that is going to be controversial and possibly cost them their job? Better for them to just move in small steps, even if they would like to move faster.
