Pretty cool I never seen one here, and was very friendly. After looking up though armadillos do carry leprosy, but it's about 1% chance, and not as easy to contract.

Washed my hands, and knock on wood my lip doesn't fall off...

Is it safe to touch an armadillo?
In the southern United States, some armadillos are naturally infected with the bacteria that cause Hansen's disease in people and it may be possible that they can spread it to people

You left a little of the answer out..

They destroy pecan orchard irrigation similar to hogs so it’s shoot on sight on the farm. They can get to be +20lbs easily. I’m pretty sure right now is around the time that their mating so they’re out and about more.
Read up that you can eat the eggs if you can find them have quite a bit of recipes online, can eat armadillos too, but I wouldn't take the risk of mishandling them/undercooking them.
