Drinking Water. SHTF Options.

Funny, I was just on their site and they have a 'plastic' version now that looks kind of like that setup...

If you connect your well water to the city water system, most Public utilities will require a back-flow preventer be installed to insure that your pump does not feed well-water back into the city water system.

A three way valve at the connection point will accomplish the same thing, but will not be approved by the Utilities. Just make sure it is downstream from your meter.

A transfer switch for your generator feed will be helpful as well.

That is not factual or legally correct. In the State of Georgia, the Georgia Safe Drinking Water Act of 1977 prohibits any cross connection of any unapproved source (i.e. a private well) to an approved and permitted source of drinking water. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division holds primacy over the USEPA for approval and permitting of public sources of drinking water in the State. And, the Georgia EPD will enforce the Act and promulgated Rules including the imposition of civil penalties (per day of violation) to protect its citizens who are depending upon public sources of drinking water.

I really appreciate all of the input.
I’ve been on the Berkey site. The bigger ones are out of stock, I signed up for notifications when they have them.

As for the well. I took some pictures of the current status. I don’t think they did anything but unplug the outlet and maybe disconnected the water lines to the house. The breaker has been off to the well house since it was switched to county water. I think I’m going to have someone come out and take a look at it. I’d like to get it functional again. I’m not interested in hooking it up to the house. Just as a back up. I’d like to get it wired up for the generator.

What do you think?

It is just a 220 line.

The plumbing is simple to hook up , even if you don't want the house on it, you can plumb in some faucets.

Are you sure they didn't plug the well? Code calls for gravel and a 6 foot plug of concrete.
Still has the pump in it so I would guess they simply turned off the breaker and ran new water line to the house.
