I do retaining walls, drainage and erosion, french drains, etc.
Unfortunately, I typically don't travel more than 10 miles outside of Suwanee. (ATL traffic and we have so much business locally that it just does not make much sense to do so).

I would NOT make the wall out of RR ties. Depending on height, I would use BLOCK. Whatever you do, make absolutely certain the quote includes the correct drainage behind the wall. If there isn't the correct drainage system it WILL FAIL. 100% guaranteed.
Yesterday, in north Duluth, a retaining wall never had the correct drainage installed, so we installed a french drain the 72' of the wall. This will be 100% effective and the wall will last a lifetime.
