Update: 14 months later she got her first deer with her 6.5 grendel

Thread '8 y/o Daughter's first deer!' https://www.theoutdoorstrader.com/threads/8-y-o-daughters-first-deer.2677637/

Hello guys,
My 7 year old daughter is just starting her training toward becoming a shooter. We have practiced with a BB gun for a bit and she recently got to shoot her first 22lr. I'm hoping that in the next couple years she will be able to hunt with me and take her own deer.

She is about 55lbs so recoil and the weight of the gun will be a consideration. We have shooting rails on my deer stands but I want her to be able to handle the weight.

My cousin has his son shooting a 6.5 grendel AR. He loves it for the low recoil and adjustable butt stock. I have several ARs but none in Grendel.

A youth model 243 seems to be the go to option and so is a 410 shotgun.

I hunt at very short distance. 100 yards max. Most in bow range.

What say you? As always I appreciate the wisdom, suggestions, advise and smart-ass comments of ODT.

Thanks!

AR 15 or Youth model 223 bolt gun, they will have the least kick. About a 4. Blackout is about a 6 (and is criticized By some for low velocity on deer). Grendel about 10. 243 about a 12. 6.5 creed a little more. 410 slug will kick pretty good too. Please Get her a 223 she’s tiny.
