The history is awesome, but price for what you get isn't that good. All the good ones I think are long gone. You could still get a nice one in the 80s.

The one I received is very nice, great finish and tight lock up. It was well worth the wait to me :thumb:

That's a good looking pistol there. I guess you can still get a good one. I knew an MP back in the 80s. He said the 45s they where issuing then where junk. He bought a satin nickel commander to use as his duty pistol. At least that's the way the story went

All the "Good ones" go to auction. As of yesterday, CMP offered Field, Service and Rack grade.
I'm pretty happy with mine. RR frame and slide, correct barrel, Korean war era grips. The only blatantly obvious replacement is the thumb safety which I can live with.
If you're a history buff they're a great addition to a collection.
They are pricey for what they are no doubt. My buddy got his surplus 1911 in the seventies when the nra was selling them. I think he paid about $20 dollars for his.
If course I'm old enough to remember when surplus gear was common and cheap. Every kid in the neighborhood had a least a helmet liner and a canteen.
I sometimes wonder what happened to all that stuff that used to be so abundant.

Nice score!! Service grade?

Got mine the other day and very happy with it. I wanted one like I carried in the Army, and as best as I can remember, this one is just like it finish wise. Took her out, put a few magazines through. Performed flawlessly like I knew she would! Really brought back some memories. I have some modern 1911's, but there's just something about an old war horse. Really glad I took the plunge!

Would appreicate some input from the experienced fellas here as to what she is. I checked out the coolgunsite and as best as I can tell, it's an Ithaca frame, 1945 production with all Ithaca parts. The grips and magazine are post war. The slide is a Remingtion Rand, also later production with a RR or Ithaca barrel. I don't see any Arsenal Rebuild markings unless I'm missing them. The FJA on the frame is an inspectors stamp I believe. It does have a faint ordnance mark on the right side where the rack number "5" can be seen.

Any suggestions on where to get a WWII era magazine?

Thanks!
