Caught this 2018 film the other night. Really liked it. It's based on a real life LAPD detective, Russell Poole, who lost his career and retirement over the Christopher Wallace, a.k.a, rapper Notorious B.I.G., murder case.

The plot is largely about Poole's investigation, and his uphill fight against his own department to solve the case, because of the LAPD corruption involved. At the time, LAPD had dozens of cops who were gang members, including some moonlighting in security for Death Row Records, which was run by Suge Knight, a nefarious Bloods gang leader, and a suspected conspirator in the Wallace murder.

If you saw the movie Training Day, you'll realize that movie was based on the same era of corruption. In fact, there are some scenes in City of Lies that are reminiscent of Training Day.

Worth watching.
