I want to put a VERY small tack weld on the underside of an AK gas block to retain an aluminum handguard. I want to use my gas MIG. Would I create any temper problems if I let it cool slowly at room temp? Like I said-it would be just a one second burst with the MIG....I won't be laying on a continuous bead with it.

Tons of people have welded front sights(HK & cut up AK) to AK gas glocks and a lot of em came with muzzle devices tack welded to gas blocks/FSBs. I'm assuming the handguard is custom or adapted hence the need to retain it with a tack weld?

Yeah it's a custom app. It's a VEPR keymod aluminum "long " H/G I'm putting on a Norinco Hunter. The receiver and gas blocks are all milled and hell-for-stout. I'm machining an adapter to put a Magpul SGA stock made for a Remington 870, a Tacstar Aluminum heat shield on top of the handguard, & chopping it to 16" with a "FAL-esque" 3" flashhider. Going for an updated M-14 look based on a long-piston AK hunter-derivitive.
