The thing about using the ladle is that "old school" feeling you get!

I have a big cast iron ladle probably ways 12 ounces. Gives you a good forearm workout.

Hmm. Wouldn't have thought that would work. You cast in the 600-700 degree range. I thought cooking oil burned off in the 400degree range.

still leaves a residue. you can put a seasoned skillet in a 600 degree oven and the seasoning won't burn off. Same thing,

Yep, and they always seem like the perfect size to put in the pot.
I actually have some that are shaped like little cornbreads, for topping the pot off.
Muffin pan, lol, at least I’m not alone.....

I use the long skinny cornbread mold it works great in my lee bottom pour

I found out it is best to only fill the pan about half full. Too full and it has a hard time fitting in the Lee bottom pour pot.

I just throw everything in the pot, wheelwright clips & all. Stir with spoon, add piece of candle, stir again and dip out the scum & floaters

And when you are done, you should be able to see yourself in the pot.

Me too. It was taking too long so I got a big steel pot, a big gas turkey fryer burner and can clean 50-60 pounds in a batch. Fumes are bad of course, all done outside with a large fan blowing the fumes away from me.

Never ever put a big pot of lead to melt if pot had water in it. It may look dry but you are risking death. Steam explosion is more powerful than you can ever imagine
