I have purchased a B92 Browning made Miroku in Japan in 1980. The stock has some dings and scratches probably from being in a safe and I would like to refinish it. Does anyone know if they used laquer, poly or something else in the event that I go forward with the refinish effort?

I'm pretty sure it's polyurethane. Hard to remove.
Most of the B92's are a very light colored wood and when you remove the finish it's almost white.
It's lots of work but if you do a good job of staining and finishing it should look better than it did new.
Browning collectors will not approve but I'm with you.

I sanded all of the poly off of this Browning BL-22. It was a job but worth it. I used Tru Oil on it after that.

I just started on a Remington model 4 I just picked up. The stock has a white rash on it. I have started hand sanding with 600grit paper and not really getting it off. I guess I may need a more aggressive sand paper. The original finish is like the Browning. That is the type of finish I would like to get it back too.
