Block brand sharpener

[The Old Jaybird]

These are small sharpeners with a plastic handle with 2 crossed metal rods that you slide the blade between. See them sold at gun, outdoor and prepper shows. Are they any good? I don't need a blade sharp enough to shave with, just sharpen pocket knives and kitchen/paring knives.

They work well enough. Smith makes one that is pretty decent. We used them at my restaurant because they were soooo much easier to teach people how to use correctly verses a stone. They use carbide cutters and you should use them judiciously or they will put a really funky bow in the edge of your your blade, they remove steel very quickly.
