Blackbeard Island Deer Hunt

Anybody ever done this? Sounds neat but I can't find much information on it. Kinda looks like I need to buy a $25 permit and charter a boat to get there. Other than that looks like its pretty much a 3 day camping trip with an archery hunt for little deer. Anybody have any insight?

I did the Ossibaw hunt once. We took our own boat. Yeah camping, lots of small deer and pigs. There are also gigantic gators and record size diamond backs. It was by far the best quota hunt Ive been on though. I would guess blackbeard is similar.

Yea unfortunately snakes seem to love barrier islands as others have said. They liked to drop out of the trees onto the roof of your tent in the morning where I went back home...

Nor have I and I pretty much spot and stalk hunt the whole time.

I think the state or DNR runs a ferry to the island once or twice a day. It’s been 25 years sense I was there.

Ossabaw Island is a great experience, especially for a first-time island hunter.
Hunt with the tides in mind, especially when you are around the marsh and tidal creeks.
