Just wanted to add my input to what some people might consider a completely personal onion.

However I feel a lot of young / inexperienced hunter out there still ask older guys what rifle they prefer when hunting in the South.

I have owned numerous bolt action rifles and AR's, but I always go back to my true trusted Marlin 336 which shots a 30-30 caliber round.

Its a great round for deer and hogs and since it is a lever-action, multiple repeated shots are possible.

Which rifle do you prefer based on your experience?

Please show the young hunter your rifle of choice by adding an image to this thread!

My favorite is an older model 70 in .270.

However this year I've decided to go retro old school and going to hunt with a .50 muzzleloader, .35rem, and .45-70.

Sort of my homage to old school. Haha.

They all work if you put it in the right spot.

My personal preference is a Remington 700 in 30-06 with 180 gr. core-lokt bullets. I've hunted with the 700 for about 25 years. I tend to stick with 1 model of gun if I shoot it well and it feels comfortable to me.
