My 4 granddaughters have killed 9 deer with a youth model 243. Average shot distance about 90 yards. none of the deer killed ran over 20 yards. Rounds used are 90 grain Winchester.

I had to shelf the .350,.308,30-30 and the 30-06 and take the 7.62x39 to see and kill a deer. Two years running that has been my lucky rifle.going back to the 308 friday, nothing has come around when I hunt with the 350 Legend
Can't speak to the .30 carbine, I can only speculate about people using surplus hardball rounds.around 1965 the Georgia Game Regulation Book list the .257 Roberts as not a legal round to use on Deer, there were several others also
one of the other rounds I remember on the list was the .30 Carbine; I remember Dad saying that was a piss poor round, said in the Korean winter the enemy was was bundled up so thick the round didn't do much good
i have primarily used a 7mm-08 for the last 2years and i love it.7mm08
What's your longest shot kill with 357? I had read it should be in theory good to about 150 yards.357 mag
you'll be fine. Lots of people use it for deer.I am going hunting for the 1st time next weekend with my brother-in-law, I'm using 7.62×39....thoughts? He said he could put me on a doe at around 40 or 50 yds.
