These colorful clays were used by Native Americans as a base for dyes and paints back in the day. There are caves carved out of the strata that allowed the harvesting of reds, oranges, yellows, whites and deep browns....but access to them was closed until next week. Still, really cool to imagine local tribes coming here to dig for clays to dye their teepees, ponies and selves....
