Astrophotography

Took this Friday with a camera lens and DSLR off a tripod with a 5" exposure. As far as astrophotography objects go, its bright.

It has been a cloudy August in South Ga, finally got a clear night last night.

Center of constellation Cygnus, centered on the star Sadr. Butterfly Nebula top center and NGC 6910 open cluster to the right of Sadr.

I got my old telescope out last night because it was mostly clear too. Jupiter and Saturn were very close together in the sky. Pluto was right there too, but it’s too faint.

I can’t figure out how to use the telescope. I’m constantly trying to focus in and then have to readjust because of it moving through the sky. Any tips?

What telescope are you using? Describe any specs you can with it: objective, focal length, type, ect... Sounds like it is a longer focal length scope, which makes your field of view small. This makes tracking an object difficult without the use of German equitorial mount. A GEM mount, once aligned with the celestial north pole, requires moving only one axis (Right Ascension) to track an object. A normal tripod or Dobsonian mount for a reflector requires constantly adjusting two axis' to compensate for Earth's rotation.

Widefield shot of Cygnus, several points of interest are visible in one frame. The Crescent Nebula is just above center left, the Butterfly Nebula is above the bright star Sadr in the center, and NGC 6914 (the blue reflective nebula) is bottom right.
