This is a great write-up about the new rifles competing for the Army contract. My son is the Editor in Chief for Task & Purpose and he has a great bunch of writers that put out fantastic articles every day. There's a video in this article that gives an inside look at Sig's testing and manufacturing that really impressed me. Check out the can that looks like it's ready to melt with all the rounds put through it with the M249..

That sucks. 6.8x51? They are basically going to have to switch to a heavy AR10 sized platform to accommodate the size of the round. The M4 will swell from a 6-7lb rifle to a 9-10lb rifle. That's not ideal for urban combat.

They should be considering something like the 6.5 Grendal, 6.8 SPC or 6mm ARC instead.

Also, LoneStar is a disgusting bullpup design.

The Army has been ready to announce a replacement for the AR15 platform for the last 40 years. I'll believe it when I see it. It will happen one day, maybe one day soon, but until an actual replacement is announced I am not putting any faith into anything I see in a "news" article.
