Hello ODT. I recently bought a Ruger Ranch Hand in 7.62 x 39 to hog hunt with. The round has impressed me for what it is along with the favorable ammo costs and availability.

I am thinking about looking into a Ruger Mini 30 to buy. I know nothing about them. Every one I ever handled in a gun store seemed to be heavy and clunky but I liked the peep sights.

• Can they be easily scoped ?
• Are they ammo sensitive ?
• Are the the newer ones less heavy and clunky ?
• Should I be looking at AK's instead ?

The main thing u should do if u get a Mini 30 is replace the existing hammer spring with heavier one doing this your Mini 30 willdigest & work smooth if shooting Russian or any foreign made 7.62x39 Ammo with harder primers . The mini 30 rifle your not going shoot quarter size groups with standard ammo put pie plate targets it’s fine more stopping power than 223. My opinion & experience with weapon. I take mini 30 over a Ak any day

I own one and love it. It’s as accurate as I can be so it suits me fine. Handles any ammo I put thru it with no issues. No scope, factory peep works good on yotes that I can get in my shooting range.
