Any electricians in the house?

If you install a transformer, it should be in a box anyway. It is simple to run some Romex and terminate with an outlet box. You should have outlets within 6' of anyplace on your walls. Hell, if it is within 6' of your camera, just swap out the outlet for one of these.

I have a quick question about running 120 to a USB camera in my office.

I have an older security cam that i'm replacing, that current cam is powered by a direct wire for power. The new cam is USB so I'm looking to cut that power and use it from the new USB cam.

I've read that these will work for what I want to do but I want an experts advise so I don't burn down my office. If this will not work what will?

Thanks for any help and advise.

What's the rating of the current 12V power supply for the old camera? As long as it (and the current power cable in the wall) is able to supply enough amps for the converter (and the converter can supply enough amps for the camera) you should be good. How does the new camera supply video?
