For the past week or so I've been noticing this star that dims and then brightens pretty doggone bright. I'm in west midtown looking East/Northeast. Tried using some of the apps out there to identify it but they don't tell me anything other than the constellation. Anyone have any idea what star this could possibly be or at least why it's doing it? It's piqued my interest.

The movement of air (aka turbulence) in the atmosphere of Earth causes starlight to slightly bent as it travels through the atmosphere. So some of the light reaches us directly and some gets bent slightly away, giving the appearance of dimming/ flickering.
